Marietta Reads celebrated its sixth-year anniversary on Saturday on the Marietta Square from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The fun-filled family event offered a variety of literacy, and other activities including, a combined student chorus performance of three patriotic songs: “God Bless America”, “This Land is Your Land” and “The Star Spangled Banner”.

“Marietta Reads! now enters its sixth-year, and we are proud of the impact this initiative has had on community literacy,” said Marietta City Schools Superintendent, Dr. Emily Lembeck.“The work we have done over the years has transformed Marietta Reads! into a model of success that others in the nation are emulating.”

Marietta Reads!, successfully helped the City of Marietta illustrate how the program has increased student test scores and book circulation, and consequently led to Marietta’s selection as an All-America City (AAC) at the 2006 National Civic League AAC competition.
