City officials and billboard companies reached an agreement that billboard companies must remove four existing billboard sign panels for every one LED billboard sign panel they build, and the billboards must not be more than 70 feet tall. “This exchange will result in two entire structures to be removed for every new LED billboard panel installed,” director of development services Brian Binzer said.

To help ensure motorist safety on I-75 and that residents in surrounding neighborhoods aren’t disturbed by the billboards, the city has placed restrictions on how bright the LED lights can be on the billboard and how often the messages change, Binzer said. The billboards will also display important emergency information including alerts for missing children.

The LED billboards may only be used along I-75 and may not be built in residential neighborhoods.

Billboard companies may apply for permits for the new LED billboards after April 13. No more than 11 new two-sided LED billboards may be installed along I-75 as it travels through the city of Marietta and they must be a mile apart. Construction usually takes less than one month.
