Marietta, GA – The Marietta Square is painting with a new brush with First Friday Art Walk. Held the first Friday of the month, April-October (with the exception of July), Art Walk is a free, self-guided tour to Marietta’s eclectic art scene. Art galleries, museums and merchants host artists within their stores and are open 6pm-9pm. Look for an official Art Walk banner in the window to identify the participating venues.

Choose your own route or begin from the Art Walk Headquarters Tent in “Artists’ Alley” – an intimate exhibit of juried artists showing a wide variety of styles. Artists’ Alley will be in the Courtyard and Alley by the Marietta Welcome Center & Visitors Bureau, 4 Depot Street. There will also be performance artists based throughout the Square.

Pick up an Art Walk map, which denotes what locations are featured and what artists will be spotlighted. Maps of the venues are available at each participating merchant, the Marietta Welcome Center & Visitors Bureau and online at www.artwalkmarietta.com. Remember to have your map stamped at each participating location. Return the completed map (with at least 15 locations stamped) to Art Walk Headquarters by 9pm and your name will be entered into a drawing for a “Hip to be Square” package including passes to attractions, dining experiences and a $100 gift certificate redeemable at any participating merchant on the Square.

Get around by trolley; take the “Scary-etta” tour at 8 pm!

The Historic Marietta Trolley will make it easier to get to all the Art Walk stops. They’re running a free shuttle service that evening from 6pm-8pm. Trolley stops are marked by flags around the Square and can be found on your Art Walk Map.

At 8pm the Historic Marietta Trolley Company and Ghosts of Marietta will be combining for “Scary-etta,” the trolley ghost tour. The tour leaves from the Trolley Headquarters, 131 Church Street. For more information about “Scary-etta” visit the Trolley website, www.mariettatrolley.com or the Ghosts of Marietta website, www.ghostsofmarietta.com.

Parking is available on the Square, in the Mill Street lots and in the Cherokee Street Parking Deck (free that evening). For detailed information about parking, visit www.artwalkmarietta.com. Admission to the Art Walk is free. First Friday Art Walk will be held rain or shine the first Friday of the month, April-October (except July). For more information, call the Marietta Welcome Center & Visitors Bureau at 770-429-1115 or visit www.artwalkmarietta.com.

First Friday Art Walk is creating an art community of excellence on the Historic Marietta Square. Along with more than 30 merchants hosting artists in their stores, this year’s First Friday Art Walk will feature Artists’ Alley, an intimate exhibit of juried artists showing a wide variety of styles.

The Marietta Square will be the place to be April 3, May 1, June 5, August 7, September 4 and October 2. Each of the participating First Friday merchants will stay open until 8 p.m. and will host in-store events.

First Friday Art Walk will be held the same evenings from 6-9 p.m. Art galleries will be featured, and merchants will display local, original works of art in their shops.

Art Walk maps, which denote what locations are featured and what artists will be spotlighted that evening, are available at each participating merchant, at the Marietta Welcome Center & Visitors Bureau, located near the Square and online.

At each Art Walk stop, you’ll have your map stamped. After you finish the Walk, turn in your completed map with 10 locations stamped, to the Art Walk Headquarters at the DK Gallery, 25 West Park Square, for a free gift bag.

The Historic Marietta Trolley will run a free shuttle service from 6-8 p.m. to make it easier to get to all the Art Walk stops. Again this year, the Historic Marietta Trolley Company and Ghosts of Marietta will team up for “Scary-etta,” the trolley ghost tour. The tour will depart Trolley Headquarters, 131 Church Street, at 8 p.m.

First Friday on the Square and the First Friday Art Walk will be held rain or shine.

Parking is available on the Square, in the Mill Street lots, and free parking is available in the Cherokee Street Parking Deck. Admission to the Art Walk is free. Handicapped parking is available.

There will be no First Friday in July, as Marietta celebrates its 175th anniversary and America’s independence in the Park.

For more information about “Scary-etta,” call the Historic Marietta Trolley Company at 770-425-1006 or visit mariettatrolley.com.

For more information about First Fridays and the First Friday Art Walk, call the Marietta Welcome Center & Visitors Bureau at 770-429-1115 or visit artwalkmarietta.com.

On Oct. 3, the First Friday Art Walk will make its final appearance for 2008. The Marietta Square
has become the hip place to be on the first Friday of every month. Art galleries and merchants display local, original works of art and are open from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Participants can pick up an Art Walk map, which denotes what locations are featured and what artists will be spotlighted, at each participating merchant, the Marietta Welcome Center & Visitors Bureau and the Marietta-Cobb Museum of Art. Each Art Walk stop will stamp maps, which can be turned into the Art Walk Headquarters, the Marietta-Cobb Museum of Art, for a free gift bag.

Dale and Mamie Joe Rayburn, painters and etchers, will show a dozen new works, both paintings
and monotypes, and there will be a few examples of some of their famous earlier etchings.
Also attending will be Wayne Reeves Jr., who makes turned wooden bowls. Ann Wallin, who
makes beautiful raku pottery bowls and other creations, will showcase several of her new works
that make wonderful gifts.

First Friday Art Walk will be held rain or shine.

Parking is available on the Square, in the Mill Street lots and in the Cherokee Street Parking
Deck (free that evening). The Art Walk is free. The Historic Marietta Trolley will make it easier
to get to all the Art Walk stops. There will be a free shuttle service all evening from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. At 8 p.m., the Historic Marietta Trolley Company and Ghosts of Marietta will be combining for “Scaryetta,” a trolley ghost tour. The tour leaves from the Trolley Headquarters, 131 Church Street.

First Friday Art Walk will return in the spring of 2009. For more information, call (770) 429-1115
or visit www.mariettasquare.com.
