Today, we talked to one of the developers of the new retail development that is going up just west of the McDonald’s on Whitlock Avenue. A short description of the project can be summed up as “A mini version of the West Cobb Avenues”. The new development will be home to upscale boutique shops and restaurants. There is approximately 55,000 square feet of retail space available in varying sizes depending on the needs of each business.

A few well known Marietta businesses such as Gabriel’s Desserts Bakery/Cafe and the Coldwell Banker Brokerage (currently on Whitlock Avenue) will also be relocating to this new space. The old Coldwell Banker Brokerage will be going up for sale once the transition is complete.

The most unique discovery we made was there will be a trendy, new “Do-it-yourself Dog Washing” shop. Gone are the days of old when there was just a laundry mat to wash your clothes. What would our grandmothers think? Only in 2006 can you stop for a delectable pastry from Gabriel’s, do a little shopping…only to be followed by a stop to wash your dog all in the same upscale shopping center.

We are excited to keep our eye on this upscale development in Marietta as new merchants continue to commit to the spaces available. We will update you as we receive any new information from the developers. If you are a business and would like to have more information about the retail space, please contact Holli Edie at 404.303.1600.

Nestled right next door to the Strand Theatre renovation project lies a hidden gem in the making. The Three Bears Cafe is a breath of fresh air to the Marietta Square. This quaint little cafe on the Marietta Square has absolutely incredible food and is easily mistaken for a cafe somewhere in the heart of theVirginia Highlands or Little Five Points.

Three Bears Cafe features a unique blend of health and flavor. The menu item that caught my eye first was the Sweet Potato Pancakes which are served with awesome maple butter. They come in three (obviously) and are incredible! They feature breakfast served all day and also have an awesome selection of sandwiches, salads and wraps.

For dinner, their feature item is the marinated ostrich filet served with parmesan risotto and wild mushroom duxelles.

We are a huge fan of this new, hip cafe in Downtown Marietta and suggest you try it out for yourself! You won’t be let down!

This morning, we visited the new Emerson Coffee Company coffeehouse on Roswell Street. From the outset, the design work caught my eye. The outside of the building has an old-school, art deco style, especially in the silver lettering of the company name. Once you’re inside, welcome to the modern era! The layout of the store is spacious and clean, with an amazing concrete floor and beautiful colors. Lighting fixtures are industrial and subtle. The location boasts a wall-mounted, flat-panel TV, which had a news channel on when we visited. The volume was very low so it wasn’t intrusive. You also have the luxury of a free, wi-fi internet connection in the cafe.

I enjoyed a double regular Americano with my cheese streusel muffin. The espresso in the drink tasted good and the muffin was tasty. For a limited time, Emerson is offering an “opening special” on several of their latte drinks. They even have a drive-thru for commuters, which is convenient.

If you’re looking for a great place to relax and enjoy some coffee, give the new Emerson Coffee Company location a try. They’re located at 358 Roswell St, Suite 1200, right past the central library (going east) and across the street from the cemetery. - Emerson Coffee House Marietta

Incredible food! The food at Hemingways on the Marietta Square is hands down, incredible. Appetizers such as Potato Skins-(topped with real bacon chips, cheddar cheese, and served with sour cream) and their Fried Chicken Fingers-(plain or buffalo) will satisfy just about anyone’s taste buds. They have live music on certain nights and the atmosphere is laid back and casual. The food was great, service impeccable and they know how to treat their customers. If you are near the Marietta Square and in the mood for some great eats, be sure to check out Hemingways on the Marietta Square!
