After collecting thousands of water samples from January 1, 2008-December 31, 2008, Marietta Water has determined that customers’ drinking water is safe and the utility is in compliance with state and federal water rules. The testing is one aspect of Marietta Water’s dedication to adopting new and better methods for delivering the highest quality drinking water to consumers and providing safe drinking water that meets and exceeds state and federal water rules.
Results of the testing were based on where the water comes from, levels of detected contaminants and Marietta Water’s compliance with state and federal drinking water rules.
Established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in August 1998, the Consumer Confidence Report Rule requires all community water systems to prepare and send their customers an annual water quality report, which summarizes information the systems collect to comply with regulations including water source information, levels of detected contaminants, compliance with drinking water rules and educational information.
Commitment to excellence
In addition to complying with state and federal water regulations, Marietta Water is dedicated to having state-of-the-art facilities, equipment, programs and committed employees to help ensure consumers receive safe drinking water. The Georgia Association of Water Professionals (GAWP) in 2001, 2005 and 2007 honored Marietta with the Water Distribution System of the Year award based on an on-site evaluation of Marietta’s water facilities and equipment including inspections of crews, facilities, vehicles and programs.
Commitment to public education
Marietta Water has developed an educational program to educate the public on the water use cycle, safe drinking water and wastewater collection. Marietta Water works in conjunction with local students, teachers and other customers to help them understand the role water plays in their health, the economy and the environment. The GAWP in 2007 named Marietta Water’s Public Education Program the best in the state for cities in the 10,000 to 50,000 population group.
