A Sprayberry High School cheerleader is in jail after police say she robbed children at a pool party in Marietta.
Chelsea Steele, 17, was arrested after she stole a box containing $147 from a group of children, including a wheelchair-confined child, at a neighborhood pool on Sandy Plains Road, according to the arrest warrant. The children were selling T-shirts and hats to benefit a father’s struggling embroidery business when the incident took place last Friday.
After taking the cash, Steele fled the St. Charles Square subdivision in a Ford Taurus with three other girls, said county police spokesman Joe Hernandez. She was arrested that night and has been in the Cobb County Jail since July 4 on felony charges of robbery and a misdemeanor charge of underage possession of alcohol. A $5,000 bond was set Wednesday, though it’s unclear whether Steele has posted bond. Calls to her attorney were not quickly returned.
There was a total of $147 taken at pool party in Marietta. A $5,000 bond set Wednesday for Sprayberry student. She has been released from Jail on Bond.
The names of the other girls have not been released because of their age. Charges against them are pending, Hernandez said.
Joe Green said his two daughters, ages 9 and 11, organized the sale of Fourth of July gear to earn summer money and help his company, JAG Designs.

This evil being is living up to her name. What a disgrace this is to her parents, if not herself. The attorney for this half-life should be ashamed of him/herself for even trying to get the victim’s dad to “drop the charges” if she pays back the money. I’m sure they used it to buy the alcohol they got busted with. There are no words or actions to even being the healing process for the victims, especially the trust this “cheerleader” killed. She’s 17 years old for goodness sakes!! A 10 year old knows better, so to insinuate that “the embarrassment of her actions” should be enough and charges should be dropped are so damn ridiculous. Teach this animal and her pack of hyenas a lesson.
The heading says “Be nice” & “Keep it clean” but with this situation, its far from possible.
It appears that your Sprayberry High School has, or used to have, a pretty good reputation, but it was mostly known locally. Now, people all over the country — all over the world, in fact — have heard of Sprayberry. Just think of that!
I suppose the school will want to do something in honor of the student (students?) who have brought such fame. I would suggest renaming the sports teams. I think that something such as the “Sprayberry Baby Robbers,” or the “Sprayberry Cheap Shots” would have a nice ring. “Sprayberry Felons” might be technically accurate, but I feel that it misses the essence of just how low that particular behavior was.
Actually, I’m posting this little bit of nastiness to make a point. We talk a lot about “individual accountability,” but the impact of crime goes far beyond just what happens to an individual offender, or to the victims. Bad behavior really does reflect on an offender’s family, friends, school, and community. I hope somebody will give this idea some thought.
And, yes, I realize that I’m being unfair to the great number of students who had nothing to do with this thing. If any of them take my unfairness to heart, I apologize. But, my point remains: when people misbehave badly, unfair things DO happen to the other people associated with them.
First of all, I don’t understand why this whole thing is nationwide news?? Is it because a cheerleader from Sprayberry High School stole money or that she stole from little kids (one in a wheelchair)?? Not to be ignorant, but its only $147… She was just being stupid and probably didn’t think she would get caught, but stealing from those children was horribly wrong.
I was at the pool while Chelsea Steele stole money from the little girls. I saw the whole thing happen, along with my other two friends. What she did was ridiculous and stupid, but she is young and everybody makes mistakes. She probably fell under peer presser and hung out with the wrong kind of people. She should be punished for her actions, but I don’t want too see her locked up. Maybe she could just do community service or something. Everyone deserves a second chance.
I also atttend Sprayberry High School and this whole thing is affecting it greatly. Sprayberry is a great school and I wouldn’t want to go to any other school. I enjoy going there very much, but it is always looked at badly. I’ve seen her in the hallways and she seems like a good person, but she just made a dumb mistake. Her actions have greatly affected the community, her family, my school, and the cheerleading team.
She made a mistake.. Who doesn’t?

i am a friend of the girls that she took the money from and i think that its terrible but to make i worce they say the name of the school when its not the schools fault. more people may not go to that school because that girl went there and because of what happened
Quite honestly, this doesn’t surprise me.
Chelsea Steele is a female dog to quite a few people around the school, and acts big and bad around her whorish friends. It was bound to happen sooner or later, and it was unfortunate it happened towards children, one of them being handicapped, no less.
It wouldn’t surprise me if Daddy was the one who pulled the strings to bond her out, and it definitely wouldn’t surprise me if some mercedes sitting in the garage for her was taken away from her.
I go to sprayberry high school and i know chelsea steele. i actually grew up with her, she was once my best friend, and she’s been through a lot. i don’t care what everyone on here has to say about her, i don’t agree at all with what she did, but everyone makes their mistakes don’t get on here and pretend like you’re some saint because you know that you aren’t. i hate how people think they have the right to judge someone else. you don’t know her. i do. you all have no right what so ever. go ahead and bitch at me all you want for writing this ’cause god knows you will, all i’m saying is you haven’t walked in her shoes and until you do don’t say shit.
This entire story has been very confusing to me. The first time I read about this event the article led me to believe that CS had stolen $178 from a handicapped child that was raising money for a local charity. When the story made it to the Today show it sounded like CS took the money from some girls that were trying to raise spending money for the summer.
In the original story CS is portrayed as a MONSTER and most people are disgusted by someone ripping $178 from a handicapped child and a $178 that was destined for a charity no less.
In the real story CS seems more like a cocky 17 YO girl that made a really bad and stupid decision.
I think people are getting carried away attacking CS and I applaud the few people that have been willing to stand up to the angry mob.
Note to CS:
Good luck CS I hope you’ve learned your lesson and I hope you can get through this.
Note to the young girls:
As for the little girls that were robbed I hope you’ve learned from this. You always have to be careful because anyone could try to take advantage of you. I am glad you ended up getting $200 from a kind soul and I bet the free trip to NYC was a lot of fun. When you girls are 17 years old remember to be nice and that one stupid mistake could get you into a lot of trouble.
Note to whoever came up with the original story about CS stealing money from a handicapped child that was raising money for a local charity:
You are a low life. You used a handicapped child to sell stories or to get what you want. You make me sick.
This is pathetic. Chelsea is pathetic. So are her friends. This makes East Cobb out to be what it is… rednecks and lowlife spoiled kids. Chelsea deserves nothing in life. No college, no career, no happiness. Just rot in hell you slime.
i find it funny because shes always a smarta** to the teachers and always gets away with it, so its about time she learns it the hard way. what do you expect from people who smoke too much weed?
If the incident does not give the high school a bad name it will be the terrible spelling and grammar on this board by its students.
I personally don’t know much about Sprayberry High, young Ms.Steele or any of the events occured at the pool. I ran into this this story while reading about less serious crimes going on in our community like the champion boxer getting shot 7-8 times while at a gas station with his godson or the 22year old psychology graduate killing 5 people in a car accident and even something small as the gwinnett county teenage shoot out that left one dead because of a couple of xanax bars so I am disgusted that there is people out there ignoring all this and much more going on around us but instead they’re focusing on getting this teenager punished, prosecuted, and defamed all over the place. The fact that no one will say the same stuff about our president, politicians, banks, and many other REAL thieves robbing us blind shows that most of you are scared, insecure pu***** that like to come down on a little girl such as Ms.Chelsea”Smash and Grab”Steele(without the Smash). She’s not a career criminal for god’s sake, she is a 17 year old fun, wild girl(from what I read),who was influenced by bad judgement, little peer pressure , a little summer time adventure and adrenaline, and maybe even a slight need of monetary gain for the alcohol later that evening lol, which all mixed together turned into typical teenage mistake. But the point is “she is a teenager” she is growing and learning , she is at the stage in life where we all live faster and more reckless than at any other age.And all you other little brats from her school acting like saints and virgins leaving mean comments “SHUT UP” and why don’t you write about the last time you cheated on a exam, got high, got ur head pulled out of a toilet and got put in a bathtub by your friends to sober you up, or even about the time you stole a piece of your friend’s mom’s jewlery or slipped a few dollars out of her purse or better yet stole yourself the lovely shirt, bra, or bikini you liked, better yet talk about the time you left your little brother-sister at home unsupervised so you can go out on a booty call. One more, I know a lot of you punks work in restaurants or fast food places right? If you only got prosecuted and put on national TV and all over the web for every time you dropped someone’s food and put it back on the plate or tray or for every time you tampered with someone’s meal or just simply didn’t wash ur filthy hands after urinating and touching your little nasty private parts(which is a much more extreme and seriously punishable offense), or even having yourself some food without paying for it. Exactly!!! Maybe ya’ll didn’t get caught like Ms.Smash and Grab(without the Smash) did but ya’ll certainly did it and most likely got over it , so what everyone needs to do is leave Chelsea alone, get over this and forgive the damn girl and also forgive her Outlaw Clique of cheerleaders and let the law and the victims of the “theft” not “robbery” deal with their punishment which I personally think should be #1.like $200-$300 restituion for the victims which is already way more than missing but for their trouble they deserve a few dollars i guess #2.time served already. #3. 50-80hours of community service. #4.maybe like a shoplifting class and drug evaluation class. #5. probation until completion of all required classes and punishment. And the only reason she should even receive that much punishment because she also got the possession of alcohol on top of that. And believe me, after she completes all of this and its over she’ll most definetly have her lesson learned and never want to do it again. Thanks everyone , love you haters , Mwwaahh!!
This is so Crazy!!! This is a Beautiful, sweet 17 year old girl who has everything going for her. She made a bad mistake. This does not make her a BAD person. And because she is a cheerleader that makes her a worse person??!! People make mistakes!!!! You Jerry Springer people need to get a life. Joe Green you need to get off your soap box. We are tired of hearing you and exploding your kids, and the handicap kid is NOT even yours??!! Are you that desperate for money in order to destroy a young girls life??? You are the one that should be ashamed!!! I don’t know how you sleep at night??? And get a haircut for Gods Sake, with all that money you have made of the FREE Advertising with vengence of destroying a young girls life.
heres a picture of all the following who were involved.

You’re a fucking liar and was never a good friend to Chelsea. Look what you’ve gotten her into. Good job. I hope you feel sastified with what you did to your “bff”. I’m sure you’re just so happy that it had to be Chelsea who got all the publicity shit and no one even knows your name. You’re pathetic and can’t own up to your own mistakes. GO TO HELL TASHA BROWN.
Chelsea’s not a bad person until she starting talking to Tasha Brown. Everytime when they’re friends, they always get into some shit together. Like for instance: day in the day at J.J. Daniel Middle School, Tasha told on Chelsea that she was taking diet pills! Wow, who’s the immature bitch now? Friends dont fuck their friends over. Face it Tasha, you were never a real friend to Chelsea.

Hello Losers and Good people. This is the oldest daughter of Joe Green and I have a few things to say. To the people who say CS didn’t deserve this, you are wrong. She stole from me, my sister, and my two of my best friends, one of which happens to be in a wheelchair, but that she is still a normal tween girl. The reason we did this sale was 1. it would be fun 2. my family’s financial situation had gotten to a point where i was even helping my parents out with money because of the economy. We also didn’t expect to make national televison, but I have to say that was awesome. CS was a 17 year old teenager who made manyy different bad mistakes not just this one. The only difference is that this time she paid the conseqences. Her life was already ruined even before this incedent. She was involved with bad people, which exposed her to bad drugs and alcohal and other bad things. So to the people who said it was our fault…. shut up, she did this to herself. To her lawer: On the news, you said she would like to personally appologize to us. She never did. What a good lawer you are. ( I say SARCASTICALLY) To a previous post by Missy: My Dad is a wonderful person and you have no right to insult him like that. It was all of our idea to go on the news like we did not just his. And anyway I liked it. And Caroline the girl in the wheelchair may not be my dad’s daughter, but she is my sister. And you should be ashamed of yourself for talking about me and my family and my friends in that way. CS did this to herself. By the way, my dad, instead of thinking about himself, we used the money to pay the mortgage or taxes and not his haircut. He is my Dad and i love him so you can’t say that. I know it was two years ago and it is over. I had just came upon this website and saw what some of the nasty things that these low life’s said. I wanted to set them straight.
What Chelsea, my sweet 2nd cousin, did was completely wrong. I’m amazed, though, at the media’s poetic license with the facts of the crime, the unquestioning belief on the part of the general public of skewed information, and the unforgiving self-righteousness of people who have not done even a small measure of the goodness that Chelsea has done since this incident. Chelsea is a child of God who made a mistake, repented, and has continued to demonstrate her repentence in word and deed.
