July is Recreation and Parks Month in Marietta, GA

Marietta Parks, Recreation and Facilities staff are celebrating Recreation and Parks month in July, and you’re invited to join the fun and explore the city’s parks.

Since 1985, the National Recreation and Parks Association has designated July as Recreation and Parks Month, and the public is encouraged to discover the benefits of Marietta Parks, Recreation and Facilities during the month. City staff will be visiting Marietta parks with goodies and surprises all month.

Events this month

  • July 4: Fourth in the Park, 10 a.m., Glover Park, parade began at Roswell Street Baptist Church at 10, Festival in the Park after the Parade, Fireworks at dark
  • July 18: 9 a.m., Public Works Complex, Love the Loop, Road Cleanup with Keep Marietta Beautiful
  • July 25: 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Christmas in July, Glover Park
  • July 31: 8 p.m., Evening Concert, Glover Park, Grapevine, Rock n’ Roll/Beach music

Facts 

  • Active users of public parks have a lower body mass index
  • People who visit parks for longer periods of time (one hour or more) have significantly lower systolic blood pressures
  • Park users who are more physically active and who make frequent contact with friends during their leisure are less likely to report feeling depressed
  • Citizens who have better access to parks, visit parks more frequently, and engage in physically-active park behaviors also make fewer visits to their doctor
  • Playing in parks also helps children build and maintain healthy bones, muscles, and joints, and improve self-esteem

Park and Recreation Month recognizes the contributions of employees and volunteers nationwide who help build and maintain public parks and recreation facilities. Their support ensures public parks and recreation facilities are safe and accessible places for everyone to enjoy.
