Marietta Mayor Bill Dunaway and City Council made appointments May 13 to the Board of Zoning Appeals, Redevelopment Corporation and Development Authority.
Board of Zoning Appeals
They reappointed Roy Shults to Ward 1 and G. Marshall Dye to Ward 4 of the Board of Zoning Appeals for three-year terms expiring April 14, 2012. They reappointed James Mills to Ward 3 of the Board of Zoning Appeals for a three-year term expiring May 10, 2012. The Board of Zoning Appeals hears cases concerning applications for variances that are submitted by property owners and then votes for approval or denial of the request.
The Board may place restrictions or conditions on the approval of a variance or grant a variance of an amount smaller than requested. The Board of Zoning Appeals also conducts hearings on appeals of decisions of the Planning and Zoning Director and requests for Special Exception Uses, as specified in the Marietta Zoning Ordinance.
Marietta Redevelopment Corporation
They appointed Ronald H. Francis as Vice Chairman of the Marietta Redevelopment Corporation (MRC) board for a one-year term expiring April 10, 2010. They appointed Randy Weiner to the MRC board for a two-year term expiring April 10, 2011.
The Marietta Redevelopment Corporation works to strengthen the economic and residential base of the city by revitalizing neighborhoods, commercial areas and other distressed properties.
Marietta Development Authority
They appointed Steven F. McNeel to Post 1 and reappointed Ed Hammock to Post 2 of the Marietta Development Authority (MDA) for two-year terms expiring May 16, 2011. They reappointed John Elliott to Post 4 of the MDA for a four-year term expiring April 17, 2013.
Established in 1989, the MDA develops and promotes trade, commerce, industry and employment opportunities in the city, and issues tax-exempt and taxable industrial development bonds.
Marietta’s commitment to positive citizen involvement in decision-making, through boards, community organizations and community meetings, which build a high quality of life for residents, is a goal City Council established as part of its vision statement.
