Citation program reduces time for traffic stops, improves traffic flow

Nov 3rd, 2008 | By admin | Category: City of Marietta, Cobb County, Crime, Site Features

The Marietta Police Department has purchased an electronic traffic citation program for patrol cars, which will reduce the time required when an officer stops a traffic violator, reduce traffic backup and give officers more time to patrol the city.

The program allows the officer making a traffic stop to run a person’s license from the police car’s mobile computer and copy the person’s license information from the computer directly to a citation. The citation is then printed on a printer inside the patrol car and issued to the driver.

“This is another example of city departments working together to improve efficiency,” city manager Bill Bruton said. “Marietta’s technology department worked with the police department to help officers work faster, which frees them up to devote more time to patrolling the city.”

Fourteen Marietta Police patrol cars are using the citation program.
