We first reported to you well over three years ago with the update to the renovation to the Strand Theatre. After more than two years of hard work on the restoration effort, and more than 4 years of raising money for the restoration effort, the Strand will be re-opening in Dec 2008.
Earl Reece said, “Much of the major construction to restore the 1930s art-deco theater is finished.”
According to Ashley Hungerford’s MDJ Online article about the progress….
“Crews now are installing the theater’s elevator and digging out the orchestra pit. Two event rooms at the theatre are only awaiting appliances, chandeliers and floors, Reece said.
Carpet and seats still need to be installed inside the auditorium, and the lighted marquee and box office need to be completed.Reece said the lobby will be the last project to finish. The tile has been delivered, but he said they’re going to wait to install it until fewer construction crews are walking through the lobby on a daily basis.
“Most of the major construction is done and most of the work now is the cosmetic things,” Reece said. “People can now see the finished project and see the classical nature of the theater. I’m ready to get everything done so we can remove the wall out front so people can see all the progress.
“I’ve seen the theater brought back to life in a way that no one expected; I think it will be one of the most beautiful buildings in Cobb County.”
On Saturday night, the musical group PARADOCS, made up of doctors and staff from WellStar, will perform a second benefit concert to support The Strand.
The concert will be at Cowboys in Kennesaw, and doors will open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10, and can be purchased by calling The Strand offices at (678) 569-1321.
We’re so excited it’s almost done here at Whitlockavenue.com! Are you getting tickets to attend the shows? We’d love to hear!
