Blue Angels: Prepare for Take-off

Apr 28th, 2006 | By mpi2 | Category: Marietta Square

If you were anywhere within a 5 mile radius of the Naval Air Station Base next to Dobbins yesterday around lunchtime, you might have caught a preview of what?s to come this Saturday during the Blue Angels Air Show. Just a glimpse of the Angels in flight was enough to generate a buzz throughout town. Spectators and Photographers were at the Chevron on Atlanta Road to take in the sight of Naval air jets practicing several of their maneuvers, including the famous diamond formation.

Smyrna resident and Blue Angels enthusiast Chaney Peavler was one of local residents who seized the opportunity to watch the Angels? practice run yesterday: “I?m surprised that there wasn?t a car wreck every 100 yards during practice day! The Angels? stunts are so amazing that I think everyone driving around Smyrna and Marietta had their eyes on the sky instead of the car in front of them!”

Though I?m sure it was unintentional, the Blue Angels practice yesterday was a great marketing strategy for their event at NAS Atlanta this weekend.

Festivities for the Blue Angels “Angels over Atlanta” will begin Saturday morning at the NAS Atlanta. The flight demonstration will begin around 3pm. More activities and another Air Show is scheduled for Sunday, weather permitting. This event will be fun for people of all ages. For more event information, visit the official site.

The Blue Angels formed shortly after World War II to sustain public interest in naval aviation. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Blue Angels. Their mission is to enhance Navy recruitment by serving as role models and ambassadors for the US Navy.

Check back here next week for a review of the event.
