Redevelopment of existing, abandoned Shopping Centers in Marietta…

Mar 13th, 2006 | By admin | Category: Cobb County, Marietta Real Estate, Marietta Square, Redevelopment

After watching the new West Park Government Center take shape over the past few months on top of what was once an old Kroger, I have come up with the conclusion that old complexes can indeed be turned around for the betterment of the community. I was skeptical at first when I saw they were going to just re-face the old building, but it has really turned out to be quite an aesthetically pleasing development.

Not only has the building itself been completely renovated, but the parking lot has been resurfaced and the landscaping looks great. I think there are other key ‘abandoned’ shopping centers in Marietta that could definitely learn a lesson from the outstanding job the West Park Government center has done in reshaping a previous ‘eye-sore’ in the area. Do you have any thoughts on redevelopment? If so, please share them with our readers using the link below “Share your opinion!”

  1. I agree. The site looks good. As I watch site next to McDonalds I wonder why we need more strip shopping malls. We’ve got the largely abandoned place where ACE used to be.

Thanks to Cobb Govt for making it work for the residents as well.

  2. The existence of largely empty strip malls in Marietta is a large problem. As retailers are allowed to build a “new and better” store literally down the street from the previous one the city has seen an increase in this problem. Zoning variances and building permits have got to be restricted. Owners of these eyesore strip malls must be held accountable to renovate or sell. Many sit vacant on purpose for years. It is a blight on our community.
We have all seen land stripped clean of all vegetation to build a new and better retail area with the same stores and the vacant area sits in disrepair and becomes seedy.

It is time we all let our voices be heard.

  3. It is good to see the old flavor being preserved along with the new look of Marietta.
