The Marietta Police Department has announced a plan to help motorists safely get to and from the Square July 4 when the city celebrates its 175th anniversary with an Independence Day parade and day of events and fireworks finale.
Visitors coming to the parade and celebration on the Square can use Church Street from the north, Whitlock Avenue from the West, North Marietta Parkway from the east or Powder Springs Road from the south for easiest access to and from the Square. Make sure you arrive early to …

Theatre in the Square – Historical new look or StripMallesque?

I’m all for redesign when it makes sense, but the new proposed look for the Marietta Theatre in the Square next to the Marietta Pizza Company looks just plain bad. Councilman Jim King said it best with, “I can’t treat this any different than anyone else, I can’t think of any business that wouldn’t benefit from a foot and a half.”
Mayor Bill Dunaway defended the request, saying council should make an exception for the theater, which brings many people to the Square.

Marietta’s Melanie Oudin has a tough loss in the fourth round of Wimbledon

Two days after beating former world No. 1 Jelena Jankovic, the unseeded Melanie Oudin (above) fell in straight sets to 11th seed Agnieszka Radwanska. “I’m very proud of myself how I did here,” the 17-year-old from Marietta, Ga., said Monday after losing 6-4, 7-5 to 11th-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska. “I think it’s just like another step that I’m taking. The city of Marietta is using new online tools to reach out to citizens and make it easier to keep up with what’s going on in the city. The city recently launched Facebook, Twitter and Flickr pages online as a way for the public to easily learn about city news and community events. The new tools supplement the city’s Web site, mariettaga.gov, which remains City Hall’s official online source for information about Marietta government.
